The shop
Built by one person.
That's the point.
Appalogue is a one-person Mac-first software studio. Every line of Swift, every privacy decision, every visual token is made by someone who has to live with the consequences.
The shop
Appalogue LLC is a Florida-registered single-member company. The product is bimi. The team is Steven. The infrastructure is intentionally small — DreamHost for the marketing site and beta portal, GitHub for source, Platform-native for everything that meets the customer. No SaaS bingo card.
No shareholder pressure to add tracking. No growth team padding "engagement" with dark patterns. No quarterly directive to leverage AI in a way that grates against the rest of the product. Just opinionated software I'm proud to run on my own machine.
bimi is the flagship — and likely the only product Appalogue ships for a while. That's deliberate. That vision is big enough to fill a career.
Founder
Steven Imbimbo — network engineer turned solo Mac-first developer. Career background is enterprise networking (TBC Corp). The bimi project started as a personal experiment with on-device LLMs in 2024 and grew into the company you're reading about.
Public talks: an upcoming session is in the works for Cisco Live (the conference, not the employer — that's a common confusion). We'll announce the date when it's confirmed.

Why one person
"How is one person building an AI agent?" is a fair question. The honest answer is: by aggressively narrowing scope, leaning on the platform frameworks, and using AI itself as a force multiplier — but carefully, and always with a code review pass that thinks about the consequences.
What the structure makes possible
- Fast decisions. Privacy posture, model choice, UI tokens — all decided once, by the person who has to live with the consequences.
- Honest copy. The marketing page can't promise things the engineer hasn't built; the engineer is the writer.
- Real defaults. "No telemetry SDK" is easy to keep when there's nobody to argue with about it.
What the structure costs
- Speed. A team of 12 ships faster than a team of 1. We try to make up for that with focus.
- Coverage. A solo shop can't be on call 24/7. Bug reports are read; emergency response isn't promised.
- Customer support volume. Beta is invite-only partly because the support surface needs to be a person reading every report.
This is sustainable, not heroic
The plan isn't to be a one-person shop forever, but it also isn't to grow until the original posture compromises. If Appalogue scales, it scales because the work justifies it — not the funding cycle.
Principles
A small list, in case you keep score:
- Ship slow, ship lasting. Six careful months beats six paniced quarters.
- Apple Silicon, Apple Intelligence — the platform we build with, not against. The on-device Foundation Models stack is the floor we stand on.
- Test the harness, not the headline. The unglamorous infra is what keeps the headline true.
- Every screen survives rotation, Stage Manager, and Split View. The platform expects this; we agree.
- A memory you can read is the whole point. Every product decision is checked against it.
- "If the user has to think, we failed." A line from the bimi design notes; it shows up in every code review.
What Appalogue isn't
To save you guessing:
- Not a Cisco company. Cisco Live is a conference we're presenting at, not the employer.
- Not VC-backed. No raise, no board, no growth target imposed from outside.
- Not hiring. Not because we don't like people, but because the shape of the product depends on the structure.
- Not a chatbot. bimi is an agent, not a tab on a website. See compare for the distinction.
- Not "selling your data." See privacy for the unambiguous version.
